
This is a full time position of up to 22.5 hours per week. The Accountant II position performs accounting functions related to a large scale governmental operation; performs accounting duties using independent judgement and adhering to policy.
A. Performs accounting functions.
a. Performs the routine accounting work involved in the establishment and documentation of general ledger accounts within the prescribed guidelines and time frames
b. Reviews and reconciles subsidiary and control accounts and prepares journal entries as needed.
c. Analyze general ledger accounts and verify accuracy with proper support documentation.
d. Assists with budget preparation, including research on expenses, projections, and gathering other required information.
e. Assembles data and prepares financial reports.
f. Coordinates financial procedures with the data processing systems.
g. Final preparation and analysis of trial balances.
h. Prepares work papers for year-end audit.
B. Develops and maintains effective working relationships.
a. Develops and maintains good working relationships with HRA staff, residents, and the public.
b. Discusses questions and complaints with the appropriate parties and helps to resolve problems.
c. Explains regulations, financial procedures, accounting requirements, and financial records to other employees and the public.
C. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Computer skills must include the ability to input and assemble data, compile reports and establish tracking systems.
• Knowledge of the principles, rules, regulations, policies and methods concerning governmental accounting and finance.
• Knowledge of computer programs and data processing systems, modern methods, practices and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding privacy and confidentiality and the ability to implement laws and regulations.
• Ability to apply and adapt established methods to a variety of accounting transactions and problems.
• Ability to implement accounting policies and procedures.
• Ability to execute accurate math computations, good keyboarding skills and learn various types of electronic and manual recording and information systems used by the department.
• Ability to plan, prepare, interpret, and maintain adequate records, files, and financial statements.
• Ability to exercise good judgement, perform work in a courteous and diplomatic manner, and establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.
• Ability to work effectively with people of all social and economic backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently, organize workload, and manage time effectively.
Ability to initiate work projects, work independently, organize work and manage time effectively.
• Graduation from an accredited two year college or university with an accounting degree; and
• Two (2) years’ work experience in accounting services; or
• Any combination of relevant education and/or work experience as may be acceptable as
equivalent by the Executive Director.
A. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
B. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
C. Must possess the visual acuity to read and prepare reports, transcribe, view a computer terminal, and do extensive reading.
D. The HRA offers a competitive wage starting at $25.67/hr. The benefit package, in the current contract, includes health, dental, flexible spending plan, life insurance, long term disability insurance, vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave, as well as an employer paid retirement plan.
